Effect of Carbide Orientation on Wear Characteristics of High-Alloy Wear-Resistant Cast Irons

Both erosive and abrasive wear are common in mechanical systems moving components industrial production. Once they occur machine parts, the task of breakdown maintenance should be carried out, leading to high production costs. Previous research has shown that high-chromium cast iron (HCCI), a commonly used wear-resistant material, experiences repeated particle impacts break up chromium carbides (M7C3) on its surface, resulting formation fine fracture carbides. It been reported erosion occurs progressively due shedding protrusions caused by plastic deformation material’s matrix. Thus, characteristics material strongly affected carbides, which come various shapes can affect resistance. This examined orientation microstructure their effects abrasion properties. The tests showed 27 wt.% content high-alloy irons best resistance properties coarse strips M7C3 effectively suppressed propagation. Additionally, M2C crystallized around support carbide reduce peel-out. Consequently, this significantly improved.
